In an effort to make sure that the next wave of immigrants from Latin America does not make the same mistakes as previous generations, it is imperative for all Hispanic organizations to step back, take a close look at the past, and change the delivery of services to the community that they serve. The National Hispanic Bar Association is just one of thousands of organizations, but it does represent more than 25,000 lawyers across the United States and generates influence in all communities. Nelson A. Castillo is the President of the National Hispanic Bar Association. I met him for the first time in the Consulate of El Salvador in Brentwood, New York almost four years ago. He was donating much of his time and knowledge to the Salvadoran people because of the love that he has for his people. Born in El Salvador, he immigrated to the United States, and by the age of seventeen, like so many Latino youth, he was out of high school working in a gasoline station.
